Drug Remdesivir

Remdesivir also know as  Veklury was the first drug approved by the FDA for treatment of SARS-CoV-2 virus. Remdesivir injection is used to treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19 infection) caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in hospitalized for adults and children 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 88 pounds (40 kg). It works by stopping the spreading of virus in the body.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, one of Bangladesh's largest drugmakers, in May became the first company in the world to introduce a generic variant of remdesivir.

How should this medicine be used?

Remdesivir comes as a solution (liquid) and as a powder to be mixed with liquid and infused  into a vein over 30 to 120 minutes by  doctor or good  nurse in a hospital. It is  given once daily for 5 to 10 days, depends on how well your body responds to the medication.

Sideeffect of Remdesivir 

Remdesivir injection may cause serious reactions during and after the infusion. A doctor or nurse will observe you carefully while you are receiving the Remdesivir. If you experience any of the following symptoms during or after the infusion call doctor or nurse :

• chills or shivering; 
• nausea; 
• vomiting; 
• sweating; 
• dizziness upon standing up; 
• rash; wheezing or shortness of breath;
• abnormally fast or slow heartbeat; 
• swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, or eyes

Your doctor will guide you if you  experience any of these side effects.

Precautions should be follow

Before receiving Remdesivir,

• tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic  any other medications, or any of the ingredients in remdesivir injection.
• tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements plan to take. 
• tell your doctor if you had liver or kidney disease.
• tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
• Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
